Boxing Training: Fitness Testing

Boxing glovesBoxing has a very heavy reliance on the anaerobic system and although you tend to get a good feel for the aerobic capacity of the boxers through the 20-metre beep test, you need a test that better simulates the rigours of boxing. The ‘repeated shuttle run’ aims to provide ‘…a measure of… exercise ability at or near maximal speed for short durations with minimal recovery between work bouts’. This more closely resembles the demands of boxing than the beep test.
